The mission of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Sacramento Valley is to offer compassionate and scientifically-based therapy tailored to its clients’ individual needs. The CBT Center specializes in Anxiety, OCD and related problems such as eating and sleep disorders and provides therapy for adults, children, teenagers and their families. We are unique in many ways and we stand out for our passion for cognitive and behavioral therapies, our understanding and caring for our clients, and our continued pursuit of advanced training and knowledge to deliver more effective therapy to our clients.
The Center’s primary focus is on the evidence-based treatment of anxiety and related disorders because there are subtle differences in how each anxiety disorder should be treated. While many therapists work with anxiety, the cognitive and behavioral approaches used at the Center require extensive continuing education in the specific conceptualization for each person and evidence-based strategies for each disorder.
We use a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies depending on what the research indicates might be most effective for a particular problem. These interventions might include cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, exposure therapy, exposure and response prevention, dialectical behavior therapy skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies, and positive psychology.
Laura L.C. Johnson, MA, MBA, LMFT, LPCC, started her cognitive behavior therapy private practice in 2010 and incorporated as the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center, Adult & Child Counseling Inc. in 2012. Her first CBT Center, Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Silicon Valley, is located in the San Jose/Saratoga area. Her second CBT Center is the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Sacramento Valley.
Laura started the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center because there’s a lack of therapists in the California who are trained to deliver evidence-based cognitive-behavioral treatments for anxiety, OCD , eating disorders and related problems. While there are many great therapists in the Silicon Valley and the Sacramento Valley/Sierra, most therapists have an eclectic style where they integrate some components of CBT into their practice. At the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center, we adhere to all of the evidence-based principles proven to be effective in research while tailoring therapy to the individual.
